Mini Post: SQL Replication - Changing The Default Snapshot Folder

Hello and good day, wherever you are! Welcome back to SQL Something!

Today's Mini Post is how to change your default snapshot folder for SQL replication. A snapshot is necessary to initially initialize the database that the replicated data is being sent to. So let's look at the process, quickly and with pictures!

Pictures make everything better.

Firstly, go to the distributor instance. Right click the replication folder (Fig. 1) and choose "Distributor Properties..." (Fig. 2).

Next choose the 'Publishers' section on the left hand side and then, finally, click the '...' next to your Distribution Database name (Fig. 3).

Fig. 4: Choose "Publishers" tab.

You will see a list of options, one of which is the "Default Snapshot Folder" option. Change that to whatever location you like (Fig. 4).

And that's it. :-)
