Mini Post: SQL Server Configuration Manager "The Request Failed..." Error

Happy Holidays! And here is a Mini Post for you!

It's a simple error to run into. You open SQL Server Configuration Manager to start a service and this pops up: The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion.

Hmmm.

You then follow the advice given and check the event log (you can check Event Viewer -> System Events) when you are presented with this:

Fig. 2: Reason for Failure...

And you chuckle to yourself because it's not the end of the world and it's a really simple issue: your credentials for the service are wrong or more likely they have expired. Maybe you recently changed the password for the domain user that runs the service but didn't actually update the creds in the service itself.

Whatever the reason it's simple and you head back to the Configuration Manager.

Right click the service in Configuration Manager and select 'Properties' and you will see this:

On account name, click browse and re-enter/verify the account's name. Click ok. Now enter the account's password twice and click ok.

Try to start the service again and hopefully you should be sorted.

DISCLAIMER: As stated, I’m not an expert so please, PLEASE (by all means!) feel free to politely correct or comment as you see fit. Your feedback is always welcomed. :-)
